Advanced Placement Credit

AP Credit

Students enrolled at the University of Utah who received scores of 3, 4, or 5 on a high school Advanced Placement (AP) exam can earn up to:

  • Eight semester hours of credit for year courses
  • Three semester hours of credit for half-year courses

AP scores must be sent from the College Board directly to the University of Utah.

**Please Note:

  • We cannot take Advanced Placement scores from high school or college transcripts.
  • We cannot award duplicate credit for other exams and concurrent college courses completed prior to completing the exam.
  • If AP scores were awarded prior to 2011, an additional step must be taken in order to have your AP scores considered. After requesting your official scores be sent to the University of Utah through College Board, please send an email to admissions_ug@utah.edu requesting an evaluation for credit.
  • The posting of AP credit is a manual process that can sometimes take 4 to 6 weeks to process once official AP scores have been received by the Office of Admissions.

**Exam equivalencies are subject to change without notice

Beginning March 2023, all prior learning credit will be evaluated and posted according to the equivalencies in place at the time the exam was taken. Credit posted prior to March 2023 will not be changed with this new policy. Questions about posting of exam credit should be addressed to Office of Admissions at admissions_ug@utah.edu. Questions regarding exam equivalencies should be addressed to the Registrar’s Office at articulation@utah.edu.
