The Guarantee Scholarship
The Guarantee Scholarship program has ended and there will be no new recipients. Current recipients who received the scholarship prior to and including the Fall 2024 semester will continue to receive the scholarship per their original terms and conditions.
The Guarantee Scholarship program provides high school valedictorians and salutatorians with tuition support.
Valedictorian – $8,000 per year (fall and spring semesters)
Salutatorian – $6,000 per year (fall and spring semesters)
Who Qualifies?
Qualified applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Utah resident
- First-time freshmen
- Valedictorian or Salutatorian
Step 1: Apply
Prospective students must first submit your Common Application and any supporting documents by the December 1 deadline.
Step 2: Complete FAFSA
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the February 1 deadline.
Step 3: Admission
Wait to be admitted and receive your letter of acceptance.
Step 4: Notice of Eligibility
The U will contact you regarding potential eligibility for the scholarship.
Step 5: Confirm Enrollment
Complete enrollment at the University of Utah.
Step 6: Attend the U
Attend classes and begin your education.
Is The Guarantee for You?
The scholarship is for Utah residents, first-time, first-year students.
This scholarship recognizes the most academically talented Utah high school students that have worked hard and are at the top of their class. It also serves to encourage academically talented students to pursue a bachelor’s degree at the state’s education leader. This scholarship makes a degree from the U even more attainable for some of our most academically well-prepared students.
These scholarship funds can be applied to tuition and mandatory fees only.
Students must apply for admission no later than the Early Action Admission Application deadline of December 1 to be considered for The Guarantee Scholarship.

For continued eligibility, students will need to be enrolled full-time for all eight semesters, maintain at least a 3.5 GPA at the University of Utah.

No. This scholarship is for students who complete their high school program of study and directly enter into the University from high school.
The Guarantee Scholarship is only for students who have completed their high school program of study and graduated between January 1, 2023 and July 1, 2023.
The Guarantee Scholarship is only for students who have completed their high school program of study and graduated between January 1, 2023 and July 1, 2023. If you are valedictorian or salutatorian of your high school class and you decide to defer your enrollment directly out of high school, you are eligible for The Guarantee Scholarship so long as you have an approved deferement on file with the Office of Admissions.
