Second bachelor’s students are those who have completed a bachelor’s degree from any regionally accredited college or university, including the University of Utah.

If you wish to pursue a second degree at the U, read on to learn about the admissions process.

Review Admissions Standards and Deadlines

Applicants are expected to have completed their previous degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.35 or higher.

The University of Utah uses a holistic review process to ensure all applicants have the opportunity to present a complete picture of their qualifications. Identifying each student’s capacity for academic success is essential to providing an extraordinary undergraduate experience.

Academic factors that are taken into consideration include:

  • Cumulative transferable GPA
  • Rigor of course selection
  • Grade trend and academic awards

Non-academic factors include:

  • Involvement in student organizations, athletics, or other extracurricular activities
  • Significant commitment to community engagement and volunteer work
  • Familial and financial responsibilities
  • Work experience
  • Extraordinary circumstances
  • Ability to contribute to and benefit from a culturally and intellectually diverse learning community

All applications are evaluated in the order in which they are received, and notification of admissions decisions are sent on a rolling basis.

Applications submitted after these deadlines will be considered on a space-available basis.

  • Spring Applications due January 1
  • Summer (Full Term) Applications due May 1
  • Summer (Second Session) Applications due June 1
  • Fall Applications due August 1

Be sure to fill out the application completely, as it will be used to determine your:

  • Admissibility
  • Residency for tuition purposes

Once an application has been started, you will be able to save and continue at any time until submitted.

Once submitted, you can no longer make changes to your application.

Pay the Application Fee

The application fee is $55 for undergraduate domestic students and $65 for undergraduate international students. It is not refundable.

Applicants from Utah will have their application fee automatically waived. The application fee may be waived for out-of-state applicants who provide documentation of financial hardship, as well as Military-Connected students (meaning a student is an active military member, veteran, or the dependent of an active military member or veteran).

All fees must be paid online within the application.

Send Official Transcripts

Please submit official transcripts from all regionally accredited colleges or universities you have previously attended.

Paper transcripts can be mailed directly from the college or university, or brought in an envelope sealed by the school to:

  • Parchment/Naviance
  • National Student Clearinghouse
  • Credentials Solutions
  • eScrip-Safe
  • Scoir

If prompted for a recipient email address when ordering your transcript, please use admisstranscripts@utah.edu.

Transcripts sent directly through email or fax will not be considered official.

  • We’ll evaluate your application once we receive all required application materials.
  • Follow the status of your application here, but please allow 7-10 business days for your checklist to reflect materials sent via mail or digital delivery services.
