The Arches Scholarship
What is this scholarship?
The Arches Scholarship program provides scholarship assistance toward tuition and fee costs for Utah residents who have an unweighted cumulative GPA of 4.00 (on a 4-point scale) from a public high school in school districts in Beaver, Box Elder, Carbon, Daggett, Duchesne, Emery, Garfield, Iron, Juab, Kane, Millard, Morgan, Piute, Rich, San Juan, Sanpete, Sevier, Uintah, Wasatch, or Wayne counties at the time of application and graduate from the same high school within those school districts. Recipients will also receive a housing supplement during their first year of attendance at the U.
- $15,000 per year (fall and spring semesters) toward tuition and mandatory fees
- Plus, $13,700 for your first year (fall and spring semesters) if you live in university HRE housing
Who Qualifies?
Qualified applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Utah resident
- First-time freshmen
- Graduate of public high school in school districts in the Beaver, Box Elder, Carbon, Daggett, Duchesne, Emery, Garfield, Iron, Juab, Kane, Millard, Morgan, Piute, Rich, San Juan, Sanpete, Sevier, Uintah, Wasatch, or Wayne counties
- Have an unweighted cumulative GPA of 4.00 (on a 4-point scale) from a public high school in school districts in the Beaver, Box Elder, Carbon, Daggett, Duchesne, Emery, Garfield, Iron, Juab, Kane, Millard, Morgan, Piute, Rich, San Juan, Sanpete, Sevier, Uintah, Wasatch, or Wayne counties at the time of application
Step 1: Apply
Prospective students must first submit your University of Utah application and any supporting documents by the December 1 deadline.
Step 2: Admission
Wait to be admitted and receive your letter of acceptance.
Step 3: Notice of Eligibility
The U will contact you regarding potential eligibility for the scholarship on February 1.
Step 4: Confirm Enrollment
Complete enrollment at the University of Utah.
Step 5: Attend the U
Attend classes and begin your education.

The scholarship is for Utah residents, first-time, first-year students who graduate from a public high school in school districts in the Beaver, Box Elder, Carbon, Daggett, Duchesne, Emery, Garfield, Iron, Juab, Kane, Millard, Morgan, Piute, Rich, San Juan, Sanpete, Sevier, Uintah, Wasatch, or Wayne counties in Utah.
This scholarship recognizes the most academically talented Utah high school students in school districts in the Beaver, Box Elder, Carbon, Daggett, Duchesne, Emery, Garfield, Iron, Juab, Kane, Millard, Morgan, Piute, Rich, San Juan, Sanpete, Sevier, Uintah, Wasatch, or Wayne counties that have worked hard and have a 4.00. It also serves to encourage academically talented students to pursue a bachelor’s degree at the state’s education leader. This scholarship makes a degree from the U even more attainable for some of our most academically well-prepared students.
These scholarship funds can be applied to tuition and mandatory fees for up to 8 semesters, with an additional amount toward on-campus HRE housing costs for the first year only.
Students must apply for admission no later than the Early Action Admission Application deadline of December 1 to be considered for the Arches Scholarship.

For continued eligibility, students will need to be enrolled full-time for all eight semesters and maintain at least a 3.5 GPA at the University of Utah.

Scholarship recipients considering a deferment should confirm their enrollment by May 1, 2025 and request to defer their start date with the Office of Admissions at admissions.utah.edu/apply/deferment.
