Am I a Transfer Student? 

You are a transfer student if you meet the following criteria:

  • You have previously attended a regionally accredited college or university after successfully graduating from high school or obtaining your GED.
  • You have not yet completed a bachelor’s degree.

Items Required for a Complete Transfer Application:

  • Completed Application
  • Application Fee
  • Official Transcripts (from ALL regionally accredited institutions attended)

***If you have under 30 transferrable credit hours you will be required to submit:

  • Official High School Transcripts (with posted graduation date)
  • Official ACT or SAT Scores

Admissions Process

  • The University uses a holistic review process when assessing applications to ensure we give all students the best opportunity to present a complete picture of their qualifications.
  • We do recommend that you aim to have a transfer GPA of 2.6 or higher, or 2.35 or higher with a completed associates of arts or associates of science degree.
  • Your transfer GPA does not include: remedial credit, credit received from non-regionally accredited institutions, and credit awarded by exam (AP, IB, CLEP, FLATS, etc).
  • If you have completed less than 30 transferable semester hours or 45 transferable quarter hours, you will also be required to submit an official high school transcript with date of graduation, and official ACT or SAT scores.

If Applying after the Final Admissions Deadline:

  • Applications submitted after the admissions deadline will be charged an additional late processing fee and will be evaluated on a space-available basis.
  • Applicants are encouraged to apply as soon as possible as the University will discontinue processing applications without notice after the final deadline.
  • Apply for admission by submitting the application for undergraduate admissions. Be sure to fill out the application completely, as it will be used to determine admissibility, residency for tuition purposes, and eligibility for merit scholarships.
  • Once an application has been started, you will be able to save and continue at any time until submitted. Once submitted, changes will no longer be possible.
  • The application fee for undergraduate domestic students is $55, this fee is non-refundable.

***Please note, an additional late fee of $40 will be charged for applications submitted after the application deadline.

  • The application fee can be paid online within the application, by phone, by mailed check or money order, or in person at the Student Services Building on campus.

***Please note that the application must be submitted 24 hours before the application fee can be paid in person or by phone.

  • The application fee may be waived for applicants who provide documentation of financial hardship. Learn more about how to qualify for an application fee waiver.


  • Please submit official transcripts from all regionally accredited colleges or universities you have previously attended.


  • Paper transcripts can be mailed directly from the college or university, or brought in person in an envelope sealed by the high school to:

  • Your application will be evaluated once we receive a completed application, application fee, and all required documentation. Use our application tracker to see your status. 

Please allow 7-10 business days for the online tracker to reflect newly received materials.

Admission requirements, deadlines and fees are subject to change without prior notice.

All documents submitted to the University of Utah become its property and will not be released to students or other institutions.  Admission applications and transcripts are destroyed after one year for students who do not attend.
