Students who have completed a recognized bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution should apply as second bachelor's degree students.
Making false or misleading statements on the application or failing to list all institutions attended may result in cancellation of admission status and/or loss of credit.
The University follows a rolling admission system, so applications will be processed as they are received. Your application will not be processed until we have received all documents and fees. Admission decisions will mailed to students soon after they have been processed.
Admission requirements, deadlines and fees are subject to change without prior notice.
All documents submitted to the University of Utah become its property and will not be released to students or other institutions. Admission applications and transcripts are destroyed after one year for students who do not attend.
Admission for students seeking a second bachelor's degree will be based on:
Your previous bachelor's degree will clear most of the General Education requirements, but certain requirements (American Institutions, Writing, and Quantitative Reasoning) will need to be evaluated individually to determine if you have taken specific courses that may apply. Learn more about General Education requirements.
Courses taken during the first bachelor's degree are not transferred individually or posted to the official University of Utah transcript. However, it is possible to use some of the courses to complete prerequisites required in the second degree. Take a copy of your transcript(s) to your advisor in the department of your major to determine what courses you will need to complete.
Students are not eligible to pursue a second bachelor's degree within the same program from which they previously graduated. For example, a student with a Marketing bachelor's degree may not also apply for the Accounting bachelor's degree.
The University confidentially maintains all application information, including your Social Security Number, which is used routinely to facilitate document matching, verify your identity, and expedite your enrollment and financial aid. Disclosure of your Social Security Number is voluntary, but failure to provide your Social Security Number may result in delay and confusion regarding your identity, and once admitted, could result in delay or loss of federal and state financial aid, tax credits, student loan deferments, veteran benefits, and other benefits under law.
