Deferment Checklist

What is the Deferment Checklist?

The deferment checklist guides students returning from deferment through the necessary steps to start their first semester at the University of Utah. It's important to remember that each of these steps cannot be completed until close to the start of the student's first semester.

Register for and Attend New Student Orientation

All incoming students are required to attend a mandatory session of New Student Orientation before they can start their first semester at the U. At Orientation, you will learn about student involvement opportunities, get information the different academic programs and campus resources on campus, meet with representatives from your academic college, and complete other activities that will help you prepare for your first day at the U.

Register for Classes

After attending Orientation, you'll be able to register for classes. Many students will register for their classes while attending their New Student Orientation session. Get tips, video tutorials, and answers to common class registration questions through the Office of the Registrar. Be sure to use the schedule builder to set up your perfect schedule.

Apply for Housing

As you get ready to start at the U, it's important to figure out where you will live. Whether you are looking to live on campus or off, there are great options to meet your needs. If you plan on living on campus, make sure your application is submitted on time to have the best chance of getting the option that best fits your needs. Learn more by visiting the housing website.
