What is the Admissions Volunteer Program?
The University of Utah's Admissions Volunteer Program is an initiative by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions to utilize alumni and parent volunteers in our efforts to reach and engage potential applicants. Volunteers will represent the University of Utah in a host of outreach activities within specified recruitment areas.
Who can participate?
Volunteers must be a University of Utah graduate or a parent of a current U of U undergraduate. This is a requirement because a strong understanding of and identification with University of Utah's unique undergraduate experience is essential.
In general, University of Utah faculty and staff who are also U of U alumni may serve as alumni volunteers. Alumni interested in college fairs or hosting a student reception should live or work in one of the specified recruitment areas in the registration form. Alumni interested in Postcards of Pride or calling campaigns can participate within any recruitment area.
All alumni must register as a volunteer and complete a training session.
Parents interested in volunteering can participate in our calling campaigns as well as hosts for student receptions. Keep in mind that parent volunteers should live or work in one of the specified recruitment areas in the registration form to host a reception.

If I have volunteered for programs hosted by the Admissions Office in the past, do
I still need to register?
We ask that all potential admission volunteers, regardless of past service, register for the Admissions Volunteer Program. We are currently transitioning to a new, online system for the volunteer program and ask that you please register using the electronic system. This will allow us to record your volunteer service and send you important program details and updates. Visit the registration page for instructions.
I signed up but haven't heard from you.
The Admission process is dynamic and ever-changing. Our needs vary greatly depending upon time of year, geographic locations and our applicant pool. We will contact you on an as-needed basis.
Much of the success of the Admissions Volunteer Program depends on having a reliable group of volunteers at the ready. We ask for your patience as our network grows and evolves. We appreciate your enthusiasm and willingness to be on board.
Also, we expect to expand over the next several years, during which time more opportunities are likely to become available.

Admissions Volunteer Program?

To update your information, please visit the Admissions Volunteer Program website and use the My U Page Login portal. If it's your first time logging into the site, follow the registration steps to register as a volunteer and create your personalized My U Page. If you have previously registered as volunteer, log in and click on "Edit My Profile" tab in the right hand corner to update both your profile, preferred volunteer opportunity, area of recruitment and/or recruitment activities.
*Alumni College Fair Volunteers: Please note that if your circumstances change mid-recruitment cycle, it is your responsibility to alert the Office of Admissions Alumni Coordinator if you cannot participate in an event you had previously committed to.
I don't live in a specified recruitment area, should I still register for the Admissions
Recruitment Volunteer Program?
Yes! There are a host of other recruitment opportunities available to volunteers, such as representing the University of Utah through calling campaigns or Postcards of Pride, in which you will have the opportunity to speak with admitted or prospective students about attending the University of Utah and encouraging them to attend our student receptions.

I heard about a college fair in my area. May I attend it on behalf of the University
Thank you for your initiative! College fair attendance must be approved by the Office of Undergraduate Admission. If you are interested in attending a college fair for the University of Utah, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with as much notice as possible so we can put you in touch with the Admission Alumni Coordinator who coordinates fairs for your area.
The same procedure applies to other college information sessions, panels and events that may come up in your area. Our resources do not extend to every informational opportunity, but we appreciate knowing about these regional events in your area.
When will recruitment opportunities take place?
We offer volunteers in the selected areas optional recruitment activities throughout the traditional academic calendar year, which typically takes place from August through May.
How many recruitment activities do you expect each alumni or parent volunteer to participate
This depends upon your availability as well as the type of recruitment programs you would like to participate in.
In regards to college fairs, we estimate that each alumnus will attend 1–5 fairs over the course of the admission cycle (August – May). This number may vary due to the fairs offered in any given year or region.
Calling campaigns and Postcards of Pride are great projects for a volunteer who needs more flexibility in their schedule, and requires only a small amount of time over the course of a few days. We provide training and detailed information to make the process easy to do. These events typically take place once or twice a year.
Do I have to participate in training if I register as a volunteer?
In order to assist volunteers in their preparation to represent the University of Utah, the Office of Admissions will provide program specific training. All volunteers are asked to complete training; you can do so through the communications you will receive from our office.
Trainings are set up in congruence with the programs you have selected upon registration as a volunteer; the training sessions will also fall in line with the time frame in which the events takes place during the academic year. For example, if you have selected to participate in Postcards of Pride, a calling campaign, or to host a student reception, you will receive further detailed information about the program and training in the spring.

If I would like to host a student reception, how do I contact admitted students?
Once an alumni or parent has registered as a volunteer and selected the option for hosting a student reception, the Office of Admissions will contact you based upon need. This need varies greatly depending upon time of year, geographic locations and our applicant pool.
If we contact you to host a reception, we request that you complete our communications request form, which provides our office the details of your event. This form also allows for our communications team to create and send invitations to students in your area, which have been admitted or have identified they are interested in the University of Utah. The communications form needs to be completed 5 weeks prior to the established event date to give our team enough time to put the needed materials as well as send the invitations in a timely manner.
I'm a volunteer and have signed up to assist with one of the following programs: Postcards
of Pride, a calling campaign and/or as a host for a student reception. When can I
expect to receive more details?
We expect to provide volunteers with training and logistics details in January-February each year. Registered volunteers in specified recruitment areas who have indicated an interest in these programs as an area of interest on their My U Page will receive updates via email.
